News! ETP wins 2009 AAHE Distinguished Service to Health Education Award
Kaiser Permanente’s Educational Theatre Program is the recipient of the 2009 American Association for Health Education’s (AAHE) Distinguished Service to Health Education Award. The award goes to an individual or organization outside the health education profession making an outstanding contribution and a national impact on health education.
A Groundbreaking Blend of Experience and Expertise
Kaiser Permanente has invested in an Educational Theatre Program (ETP) since 1985, with a commitment spanning all service regions. The pairing with Oregon Children’s Theatre in the Northwest region marks a groundbreaking collaboration between a large health care organization that emphasizes prevention and a celebrated professional children’s theatre. Since its founding in 1989, Oregon Children’s Theatre has become Oregon’s leading professional children’s theatre with the broadest scope of services and impact. Kaiser Permanente is a nonprofit group practice health care organization and America’s leading integrated health plan. Kaiser Permanente Northwest serves over 485,000 people in Oregon and Southwest Washington.
Exceptional Educational Theatre for Northwest Schools
“The Amazing Food Detective” will tour September 15-November 20, 2009. “Texting the Sun” will tour January 11-June 4, 2010. The productions will be presented free of charge to public schools in Oregon and Southwest Washington.
Interactive Productions that Immerse, Engage, and Empower
As young people can be engaged and informed through an exchange of energy and ideas, Educational Theatre Program (ETP) productions open the door for kids to immerse themselves within the action. The programs prompt peer-to-peer learning experiences that reach students in a creative nontraditional way.
ETP productions explore a wide range of wellness issues and subject matter. They raise questions about important topics that impact young people today, from eating habits and inactivity to social conflict and intolerance. Educational Theatre Programs enable students to step into poignant scenarios, prompting thought and dialogue about everyday decisions that shape the quality of their health and their lives.
